When you show up to the table, do you feel like you’re all alone?
I was recently asked how I am successful when I am different from everyone else in the room. As a music therapist working in mental health, this is often the case - there is no one else like me in the room. And this can be scary. But it can also be a huge advantage. I have a perspective and skill set no one else has.
When we own our uniqueness, we can show up to the table with something no one else has.
So I invite you to pause and ponder how you are different from those around you. What experiences have only you had? What talents and insights are uniquely yours? What do your differences enable you to do that no one else in the room can do?
If you need some inspiration to dig deep and own your individuality, listen to the song “This is Me” from The Greatest Showman soundtrack (as sung by the incomparable Keala Settle).
“Look out 'cause here I come
And I'm marching on to the beat I drum
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me”
Own your differences and use them to shine.
