For more than 20 years, this month has been recognized by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as Mental Health Awareness Month. This is a time for all of us to increase awareness about the importance of mental health in overall health. It is also a time to share resources to ensure everyone in our communities knows where and how they can receive help in times of trouble.
That said, did you know that SAMHSA has a variety of resources for families of individuals coping with mental and substance abuse disorders? These materials include information on how to start a conversation about mental health struggles, and how anyone can help connect their loved one with the help they need.
